Twenty-six-year-old Breonna Taylor, an EMT and aspiring nurse, loved family gatherings, dressing up glamorously, and brightening others' days. "Working in health care is so rewarding," she wrote on Facebook. "It makes me feel so happy when I know I've made a difference in someone else's life." Last March 13, in the middle of the night, three plainclothes police officers killed Breonna in her own apartment during a botched narcotics raid. She was not the target and the suspect was already in custody. Her family settled its wrongful death suit with Louisville in September, and the city banned no-knock warrants, but the officers have yet to be prosecuted for Breonna's murder. On what would have been her 27th birthday, June 5, her mother Tamika Palmer lamented in a tribute with The Cut, "She did everything right. She always wanted to do anything that would help her be a better friend, a daughter, a girlfriend. I was definitely in awe of her. For her to die the way she did was a smack in the face." Her spirit lives on in infinity as millions continue to demand justice in her name ♾️
